Satkhira district administration has withdrawn its controversial decision requiring motorcycle riders to present a fuel card to collect petrol and diesel, following widespread public criticism.

The rule, announced late Wednesday, had mandated a fuel card signed and sealed by the Deputy Commissioner, along with valid documents and collection within designated hours.

The announcement sparked immediate backlash among residents, who raised concerns about accessibility and inconvenience. Responding to the criticism, the administration canceled the directive Thursday morning.

District Information Officer Jaharul Islam confirmed that riders can now collect fuel using standard documents such as a driving license, vehicle registration, and tax token, without a fuel card.

Additional District Commissioner (General) Ripon Biswas said the initial measure aimed to regulate fuel distribution and maintain order, but public reaction prompted a swift reversal.

He added that other rules, including collection hours from 8:00am to 8:00pm and mandatory helmet use, remain in force.
