Saudi delegation meets PM, expresses interest in $1bn port investment

A high-level Saudi delegation has expressed interest in increasing their investment in Bangladesh's port management to $1 billion and investing an additional $180 million to construct a bay terminal.

The delegation conveyed this interest during a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister's Office in the National Parliament building on Wednesday, July 15.

The delegation, led by Saudi Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Dr Rumaih Mohammed Al-Rumaih, also included the CEO of Red Sea Gateway Terminal International and other high-ranking officials. They discussed bilateral relations and cooperation in investment and infrastructure development.

The Prime Minister said the longstanding friendly relations with Saudi Arabia are very important to his government.

The Saudi delegation also expressed interest in investing in various other sectors in Bangladesh, including railways. They noted that they had explored investment opportunities and that detailed discussions could take place in future joint meetings.

In response, the Prime Minister briefed the delegation about his government's investment-friendly policies.

Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Minister Sheikh Rabul Islam, Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir and BIDA Chairman Ashik Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
