Following an extended Eid-ul-Azha holiday spanning nearly ten days, the Savar industrial area has roared back to life, with factories reopening in full swing and thousands of workers returning to their jobs.

From early morning, garment and manufacturing units in Savar and Ashulia began operating at full capacity. While most factories had resumed partial operations on June 15, today marks the full-scale restart of production across 100% of the industrial units, according to on-ground reports.

The streets of Savar, once quiet during the festive break, were once again filled with the familiar rhythm of workers heading to their workplaces. Commercial activity has also picked up across the region, with a notable increase in the number of buyers and sellers in roadside stalls, local markets, and grocery shops.

“The Eid holiday was very good. I visited my family after a long time,” said Mizanur Islam, a worker at a garment factory in the Dhaka Export Processing Zone. “Though I feel a bit tired, I’m happy to be back at work.”

Rehena Begum, who works at Fountain Garments Manufacturing Limited in the Bypail area, shared a similar sentiment: “I spent Eid with my parents and siblings. It feels good to return to work. Without work, we can't earn a living.”

Local businesses, too, are seeing a revival. “Business was almost at a standstill during Eid,” said Sifat, a grocery shopkeeper in the Jamgara area. “But since this morning, sales have picked up. The workers are back, and so are the customers.”

Ashikur Rahman, Human Resources Manager at Fountain Garments, confirmed that worker attendance was higher than expected. “We had anticipated a slower return, but almost everyone showed up on time. Production is running smoothly and according to our targets.”

To ensure a smooth reopening, security has been tightened in the industrial zone. Mohammad Mominul Islam Bhuiyan, Superintendent of Police for Industrial Police-1, reported minor issues in the morning due to ongoing recruitment and layoffs at some factories, which led to crowding. However, he confirmed that the situation was brought under control promptly. “Our forces are deployed, and overall, operations are running normally,” he said.
