A shocking robbery occurred on a moving bus in Savar, where armed robbers looted gold ornaments, cash, and valuables from passengers, causing a wave of fear and panic.

The robbery took place on the night of Friday (April 4), aboard an Itisah Transport bus traveling from Chandra.

This incident marks the third robbery on a moving vehicle in Savar, raising concerns about safety on public transport in the area.

According to local sources, as the bus reached Rajfulbaria Hemayetpur Road on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, a group of robbers boarded the vehicle near the Karnapara Bridge. Armed with country-made weapons, they held the passengers hostage at gunpoint. The robbers forcefully snatched cash, mobile phones, gold jewelry, and other valuables from the passengers. After robbing the victims, the perpetrators ordered the driver to stop the bus in the Rajfulbaria area of Tetuljhara Union before fleeing the scene with their loot.

One of the passengers, Sumon Sarkar, shared his experience: "I boarded the bus in Chandra, and when we reached Savar, a group of armed men from Ulail hijacked the bus and took everyone hostage. They stole 35 thousand taka from me."

Other passengers revealed that women on the bus were targeted for their gold necklaces and mobile phones. The robbers reportedly fled the scene with two bags full of stolen valuables.

Following the incident, bus driver Rojob Ali and his assistant, Emdadul Haque, were taken into custody by Savar Model Police Station for questioning. Ali explained that after the robbers disembarked, some passengers vandalized the vehicle in anger. "When the robbers left, we hid on the side of the road," he said.

Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle), Shahinur Kabir, confirmed the robbery and assured the public that authorities were taking swift action. “We have received a complaint about the robbery, and we are actively working on the case. We hope to apprehend the criminals soon. Despite conducting an overnight operation, we have not yet arrested any suspects or recovered the stolen goods,” he stated.
