SBAC Bank elects Md Maksudur Rahman chairman of board

Professor Md Maksudur Rahman Sarker, FCMA, an independent director of SBAC Bank PLC and chairman of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems at the University of Dhaka, has been elected chairman of the bank’s board of directors.

He was elected at the 215th board meeting on Wednesday (September 9), according to a press release.

Professor Maksudur earned his BCom (Honours) and MCom in Accounting from the University of Dhaka, securing first-class first positions in both examinations before joining the department as a lecturer. He later obtained an MBA in Finance from the University of New Brunswick in Canada.

He has also completed Level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme and holds the professional CMA qualification from the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB). He pursued higher education in Canada and the United States on scholarships.

An academic, researcher and accounting professional specialising in the financial sector, Professor Maksudur has authored more than 35 research articles published in journals at home and abroad.

He also wrote “Credit Management of Commercial Banks: A Comparative Study of Public and Private Sector Banks.”

He has participated in international seminars and conferences on financial-sector issues in more than 20 countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, South Africa and China.
