Student's body found hanging in Lakshmipur dormitory

The body of school student was found hanging in the residential hall of Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan Academy in Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur.

The deceased, Mehedi Hasan, 15, was the son of Ziauddin Zia from Raghavpur village under Ichhapur union of the upazila.

Police and local sources said the body was recovered from the school’s residential dormitory on Tuesday afternoon (June 16). The incident spread quickly, and by around 8:00pm, agitated locals gathered in front of the institution and damaged the main gate and reception area.

Law enforcement and local administration later rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

Mehedi’s family, however, rejected the initial version of events and alleged that he was killed.

Authorities said the body was sent for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

“The body has been recovered. The real cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report. We urge everyone to remain calm until the investigation is complete,” said the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Ramganj.

Lakshmipur Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi said the hanging body was recovered from the dormitory. “After the autopsy report, the actual cause of death will be confirmed,” he said, adding that additional police were deployed after locals vandalised the institution.

The situation is now under control, police said, while an investigation is underway.
