School teacher found dead in septic tank after suspected burglary in Pabna

Police have recovered the body of a school teacher from an abandoned septic tank in Atgharia upazila of Pabna, in what investigators believe was a murder committed during a burglary.

Authorities suspect the victim was strangled after confronting intruders who entered her home by cutting through a wall.

The body was recovered around 11am on Thursday (July 30) from a septic tank beside her residence, confirmed Atgharia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Haque.

The deceased, Gita Rani, 45, was a teacher at Chachkia BRAC School and a resident of Baraipara village in Ekdanta Union. She had been living alone at the house while her husband worked in Dhaka.

According to police and local residents, the attackers allegedly broke into the house late Wednesday night by cutting through a wall.

Gita Rani reportedly confronted the intruders, leading to a struggle.

Investigators believe she was strangled to death before the assailants dumped her body into the abandoned septic tank beside the house.

Her body was discovered on Thursday morning after local residents began searching for her and noticed it inside the septic tank. Police later recovered the body from the scene.

The body has been sent to Pabna General Hospital for an autopsy.

Police said the motive behind the killing and the identities of those responsible have not yet been determined, adding that an investigation is underway.
