Schoolboy drowns in Matamuhuri river

A schoolboy named Adar Das, 12, tragically died after drowning in the Matamuhuri river in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar. The incident took place at Matamuhuri Bridge Point on Monday afternoon (May 18).

The deceased Adar Das is the son of expatriate Pradeep Das, a resident of Khodarkum Hindupara, Bharamuhuri, Ward No. 4 of Chakaria Municipality, and a student of class seven of Chakaria Korak Vidyapith.

Ranjit Das, a relative of the deceased, said that Adar went to bathe in the Matamuhuri river with some friends from the area in the afternoon. At that time, he drowned in the sand created by illegal sand mining in the river. His friends rescued him and took him to the Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Officer-in-Charge of Chakaria Police Station Md. Monir Hossain said that police were sent to the spot and the body was handed over to the family at the request of the family. This tragic death has cast a shadow of mourning over the area.
