Schoolboy found dead in Chandpur lake, 7 classmates held
A schoolboy's body was recovered from a lake in Chandpur town on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Al Amin, 17.
His body was found floating in the water around 9.00pm on Saturday (July 12). Police have detained seven of his classmates for questioning.
Al Amin was the son of Ramzan Ali Pradhania, a Juba Dal leader of Rajrajeshwar Union. Al Amin had recently completed his SSC exams and was a student of Goni Model High School. His family lived in a rented house on Mominpara Road in the town.
According to locals, Al Amin was seen in the afternoon chatting with a few classmates near the ‘Swadhinotar Smarok Ongikar’. Around 9.00pm, his body was found floating in the lake and was quickly rescued. He was taken to the district hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Family members claimed there were multiple injury marks on Al Amin’s body. They alleged that members of a teenage gang beat him and then threw him into the water.
Following the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bahar Mia of Sadar Model Police Station and the Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) visited the hospital. Acting on information provided by family members and friends, police detained seven of Al Amin’s classmates. The detainees include Didar Gazi, Mamun, Zahed, Didarul Islam, Moin Islam, and Shamim.
OC Bahar Mia said, “We are currently investigating the incident, and legal action will be taken based on our findings.”
