A sixth-grade schoolgirl was abducted on her way to school in Gobindaganj upazila, Gaibandha, and left on the roadside after being raped throughout the day, police said.

The victim, a girl around 11-12 years old, was found unconscious on Monday afternoon, April 27. Locals rescued her and took her first to a local hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, where she is currently in critical condition.

According to the family, the girl left home in the morning to go to school. In the Samaspada area of the Dhaka-Rangpur highway, two youths forcibly picked her up in an auto-rickshaw and took her to a secluded place. They allegedly drugged her and raped her for an extended period. In the afternoon, the perpetrators left her unconscious on the roadside.

Doctors at the upazila health complex said the child was a victim of severe sexual assault. She was referred to the medical college after receiving primary treatment.

Gobindaganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mozammel Haque said police have started an investigation immediately after the incident. Efforts are underway to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
