Schoolgirl found unconscious; family accuses police of not filing case

A case has been filed at the police station over the abduction and recovery of a ninth-grade schoolgirl in an unconscious state in Ranishankail upazila of Thakurgaon, following allegations that authorities initially refused to register the complaint. The victim's family has submitted a written complaint against the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station to the Superintendent of Police (SP).

The family alleged that on the night of July 1, the schoolgirl was taken from beside her home in Jaogaon village of Nandua Union. Later, family members found her unconscious nearby and admitted her to the upazila health complex.

The family claimed that for a long time before the incident, three youths from the same area had been harassing her on her way to and from school. On the night of the incident, when she went to the toilet, they allegedly covered her mouth, made her inhale an intoxicating substance and took her away unconscious. When she regained consciousness, the girl described the incident to family members.

The victim's mother, Rani Akhtar, submitted a written complaint against the three youths at Ranishankail Police Station, but the case was not filed, they alleged. She claimed that while the OC initially assured them of action, he later delayed with various excuses and advised them to go to court. Seeking justice, they then submitted a written complaint to the SP.

The family alleged that police did not take the case due to the influence of a local BNP leader. However, Nandua Union BNP president and former UP chairman Jamilul Islam denied the allegation, stating he had no involvement in the incident and had not influenced anyone.

Regarding the matter, Ranishankail Police Station OC Amanullah Al Bari said the case was not filed as the incident appeared "false" to him.

Thakurgaon Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Mohammad Khodadad Hossain said the family's written complaint has been received. The matter is being investigated impartially. If the allegations are proven, necessary legal action will be taken.
