A scrap trader was hacked to death with his motorcycle later set on fire in in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj.

The deceased was identified as Sohel Munshi, 39, son of late Ismail Munshi of Kalurgoan village under Gaodia union.

Sohel was found dead early Wednesday (June 17) in the courtyard of his home in Kalurgoan village, according to family members.

Police and relatives said unidentified assailants attacked him with sharp weapons during the night and left his body inside the house compound before setting his motorcycle on fire.

Sohel was involved in the local scrap trading business. He had gone to sleep in a separate room after dinner, while his wife, who recently gave birth to a child, was staying with her mother-in-law in another room, family sources said.

According to locals, the deceased's family members were awakened in the early hours after hearing a disturbance and later found his motorcycle burning in the courtyard, while Sohel’s body lay nearby in a pool of blood. His body showed multiple injury marks, consistent with attacks using sharp weapons.

Residents suspect the attackers killed him first and later set the motorcycle ablaze, possibly to destroy evidence before fleeing the scene.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy after preparing an inquest report.

Borhan Ul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Louhajang Police Station, said, "Law enforcement reached the spot immediately after being informed and launched an investigation into the incident."
