Second wife's family demolishes expat husband's home in Chuadanga

A family dispute in Chuadanga's Alamdanga upazila escalated dramatically after the house of a Bangladeshi expatriate was allegedly demolished with an excavator, reportedly over a conflict involving his first and second marriages.

The incident took place on Sunday morning (August 2) in Khejurtala village under Nagdah Union. Videos of the demolition quickly spread across social media, triggering widespread public debate.

According to local residents, Rafiuddin, son of the late Ramzan Ali of Khejurtala village, first married Chhoni, daughter of Shahidul Islam. The couple later divorced, after which he married Rima, daughter of Mukul Hossain from the same village.

Residents allege that Rafiuddin later secretly remarried his first wife and subsequently took her with him to Malaysia, where he currently lives. The development reportedly sparked a prolonged dispute between the families.

The conflict culminated on Sunday when members of the second wife's family allegedly brought an excavator to Rafiuddin's residence and tore down parts of the house, including walls and rooms. A large crowd gathered during the demolition, while videos of the incident later went viral online.

Speaking from Malaysia, Rafiuddin alleged that his home had been deliberately destroyed, causing financial losses worth several lakh taka. He demanded a fair investigation and legal action against those responsible.

Attempts to obtain a response from Mukul Hossain, who has been accused in connection with the incident, were unsuccessful.

Bani Israil, officer-in-charge (OC) of Alamdanga Police Station, said police were aware of the incident but had not yet received a formal complaint.

"If a written complaint is filed, we will investigate the matter and take legal action in accordance with the law," the OC said.
