Section 144 imposed again in Gopalganj following curfew
The Gopalganj district administration has enforced Section 144 from 6:00am to 8:00pm today (July 20). The order was issued on Saturday night by District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamruzzaman.
According to a notification from the district administration, this order will remain in effect under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. During this time, gatherings, processions, and public meetings are prohibited in any part of the district. However, students, examinees, government offices, and emergency services will be exempt from this restriction.
Executive Magistrate Russell Munshi said, "A curfew was in place from 8.00pm Saturday night to 6.00am Sunday in Gopalganj. After the curfew ended, Section 144 was implemented, which will remain in force until 8.00pm."
Earlier, on Wednesday, a curfew had been imposed from 8.00pm to 6.00pm the next day after clashes between law enforcement and supporters of the National Citizens' Party (NCP) during their 'March to Gopalganj' event. Later, the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to extend the curfew indefinitely on Friday. Subsequently, the curfew was relaxed from 6.00am to 8.00pm on Saturday.
