Section 144 imposed in CU area
The administration has imposed Section 144 in the Chittagong University area after clashes erupted between local residents and students. The order is effective from 2 PM today (Sunday, August 31) and will remain in force until midnight on Monday, September 1.
According to a notification signed by Muhammad Abdullah Al Mumin, Executive Magistrate and Upazila Executive Officer of Hathazari Upazila, local residents and students came face-to-face around 11:30 AM on Monday in the area stretching from the eastern boundary of Gate No. 2 Market of Chittagong University to the rail gate. The confrontation escalated into clashes, and the situation remains tense.
To protect lives and property, maintain law and order, and control the situation, Section 144 has been enforced in the affected area.
The order prohibits all forms of meetings, assemblies, protests, processions, and gatherings during this period. The carrying of explosives, firearms, and indigenous weapons is also banned. Furthermore, any gathering or movement of five or more people together in the area is strictly prohibited.
