Section 144 imposed in Hathazari

The administration has imposed Section 144 in Hathazari upazila of Chattagram following vandalism of a vehicle belonging to Jasne Julush procession. The situation in the area is currently tense.

An order signed by Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muhammad Abdullah Al Mumin on Saturday night declared a state of emergency.

Muhammad Abdullah Al Mumin, in the exercise of his powers, has issued an order under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, from 10pm on Saturday to 3pm on Sunday in order to control the situation, protect the lives and property of the public and maintain peace and order.

The order further states: "I have declared a complete ban on all types of meetings, demonstrations, mass gatherings, carrying explosives, firearms and all types of indigenous weapons, etc., in the said area during the said period, and on the presence or movement of 5 or more people together in the concerned area."

Students of Darul Uloom Madrasa have been blocking the Chattagram-Khagrachari and Chattagram-Rangamati roads since the vandalism of the procession's vehicle during the Jasne Julush celebration. As a result, traffic on those roads is closed since the incidents occurred around 8 pm on Saturday.
