The local administrations have imposed Section 144 in the Pauroshabha area of Rangamati and Khagrachhari districts due to the deteriorating law and order situation and the risk of property damage. Rangamati District Magistrate Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan issued a notice in this regard. According to it, the order has been effective from 1pm on Friday (20 September) until further notice. Meanwhile, Khagrachhari district administration issued another notice and as per it the order took effect at 2pm on Friday. It will remain effective until 11pm. The actions comes in the backdrop of repeated clashes between Bangalis and the indigenous people in Khagrachari.

খাগড়াছড়িতে 'পাহাড়ি-বাঙালি' সংঘর্ষ ও মৃত্যুর ঘটনার জেরে সহিংসতা ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে আরেক পার্বত্য শহর রাঙামাটিতেও। এমন পরিস্থিতিতে শুক্রবার (২০ সেপ্টেম্বর) বেলা দেড়টা থেকে রাঙামাটি পৌর এলাকায় এবং বেলা দুইটা থেকে খাগড়াছড়ি পৌর এলাকায় ১৪৪ ধারা জারি করা হয়েছে। এবিষয়ে উভয় জেলা প্রশাসনের পক্ষ থেকে পৃথক আদেশ জারি করা হয়। স্থানীয় ও প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীরা জানান, খাগড়াছড়িতে সংঘর্ষ ও মৃত্যুর ঘটনার প্রতিবাদে সকালে রাঙ্গামাটি শহরের জিমনেসিয়াম চত্বর থেকে কয়েক হাজার পাহাড়ির একটি মিছিল বের হয়। তারা শহরের বনরূপা এলাকায় গেলে সেখানে তাদের মিছিলে ইটপাটকেল নিক্ষেপ করা হয়েছে-এমন অভিযোগ করে বাঙালিদের বেশ কিছু দোকানপাট ও বনরূপা মসজিদ ভাঙচুর করা হয়। এদিকে খাগড়াছড়িতে গতকালের (বৃহস্পতিবার) সংঘর্ষে ৩ জন নিহত ও ৯ জন আহত হয়েছেন। নিহতরা হলেন- জুনান চাকমা (২০), ধনঞ্জয় চাকমা (৫০) ও রুবেল (৩০)। তাদের মরদেহ খাগড়াছড়ি জেলা সদর হাসপাতালে রয়েছে বলে নিশ্চিত করেছেন হাসপাতালের আবাসিক চিকিৎসক রিপল বাপ্পি চাকমা।
