Section 144 still in force in Khagrachhari
Khagrachhari Sadar and Guimara remain under Section 144 following recent violent incidents, but daily life is largely returning to normal.
On Friday (October 3), a weekly holiday, movement of people and vehicles in the town was relatively low, and shops reopened across the area.
The army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and police have maintained multiple layers of security, including checkpoints and search operations. Earlier, two separate cases were filed in Guimara over violations of Section 144, attacks, arson, and the killing of three individuals. Another case has been filed in Sadar in connection with the violence.
Tensions escalated recently after allegations surfaced regarding the rape of a Marma adolescent girl. The army stated that the issue was being exploited to create unrest in the hill district.
