Security tightened around Ivy’s residence, CCTV cameras installed
Police have stepped up security and surveillance around the residence of former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy following her release from prison, installing CCTV cameras and deploying plainclothes officers in the area.
Authorities say the measures are aimed at ensuring Ivy’s personal security and monitoring any potential political activities linked to banned organizations.
Ivy was released on Wednesday night (June 4) after spending nearly 13 months in custody.
Following her release from Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail, she returned to her ancestral home, Chunka Kutir, in Narayanganj’s Deobhog area. Before returning home, she visited family members and paid respects at relatives’ graves at the central cemetery.
Since her return, police presence has remained visible around the residence.
Local residents said additional CCTV cameras were installed overnight on roads surrounding the house as part of enhanced security arrangements.
Confirming the move, Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Tarek Al Mehdi said the measures were taken considering Ivy’s security and the overall law-and-order situation.
“Alongside ensuring her safety, law enforcement agencies are also monitoring whether anyone is attempting to engage in activities on behalf of any banned organisation,” he said.
The police official added that as Ivy has been released on bail, she is entitled to carry out her normal activities. However, she will not be permitted to participate in political programmes organized under the banner of any banned group.
He further noted that the installation of CCTV cameras is part of a broader security initiative across Narayanganj, under which around 2,000 cameras are planned to be installed in phases throughout the district.
Meanwhile, relatives, supporters and well-wishers began visiting Ivy’s residence from Thursday morning. Family members, however, are reportedly limiting access in an effort to manage crowds and maintain security.
