Security tightened at EC ahead of poll, referendum schedule announcement

Overall security has been heightened in and around the Election Commission (EC) headquarters in Dhaka ahead of the announcement of the schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the national referendum.

From Thursday morning, movement on the road in front of the commission building was restricted, and metal barricades were placed around the entrance. Law enforcement officers tightened access control, allowing entry only after verifying identity.

The election schedule will be announced at 6:00pm through Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, and private media outlets.

Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasiruddin is set to formally announce the details.

The schedule will outline the dates for vote-casting, nomination paper collection, submission and withdrawal, as well as candidate conduct rules, voter guidelines, and other key instructions.
