After a gap of nearly 33 years, Jahangirnagar University is holding elections for the Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) and hall unions today, (Thursday, September 11). Voting began at 9:00 am and will continue uninterrupted until 5:00 pm.

In preparation for the elections, security has been significantly increased across the university campus. A banner reading “Entry of Outsiders Prohibited” was installed near the Gerua gate at the back of the campus around 8:15 am. Police personnel have been deployed at multiple locations to ensure smooth and peaceful voting.

Dhaka District Police Superintendent (PPM) Anisuzzaman stated that so far, no security threats have been reported. However, extra precautions have been taken at the Gerua gate, where unauthorized entry attempts are expected. Accordingly, law enforcement presence has been intensified there.

The army is also on standby as a striking force to assist if needed. Nasimul Ghani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, assured reporters yesterday that the highest level of security arrangements have been made to conduct the elections smoothly. Police, Ansar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and army personnel are all deployed to maintain order. The army may enter the campus if the situation demands.
