Separate programmes by three BNP factions in Faridganj, leader dies of stroke in rally

Three separate programmes were organised by different factions of Faridganj upazila BNP in Chandpur on the occasion of the party’s 48th founding anniversary instead of a single event. A BNP leader died of a stroke while participating in a rally in one of the programmes held in the upazila town on Tuesday (September 1).

A discussion meeting and rally were organised at the BRDB field in front of the upazila parishad under the leadership of former member of parliament and BNP National Executive Committee revenue affairs secretary Lion Harunur Rashid. Abdul Khalek Patwary, Md Mohsin Molla, Mahfuzur Rahman Tipu, Nasir Uddin Patwary and other BNP leaders and activists took part in it. Md Selim, president of No. 14 Union BNP of Faridganj upazila, suffered a stroke while participating in this rally and later died. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Faridganj Police Station Mohammad Ershad Ullah confirmed his death.

On the other hand, another faction of BNP and a group supported by the current independent member of parliament observed a separate programme at Faridganj bus stand area. Former upazila BNP convener Sharif Mohammad Yunus, Motahar Hossain Patwary, physician Abul Kalam Azad, Mujibur Rahman Dulal, former mayor Md Manjil Hossain and other leaders and activists took part in it.

Besides, another discussion meeting was held under the leadership of BNP leader and Jubodal general secretary Md Imam Hossain in the same area. Former councillor Md Amin Mizi, Kath Nasir and other leaders and activists of the party were present there.

Strict police security measures were taken in Faridganj municipal town apprehending possible tension centering the three separate programmes. Later the separately organised rallies paraded different roads of the town and ended at the bus stand area. Hundreds of BNP leaders and activists from various remote areas of the upazila took part in the programmes.
