Seven govt colleges announce protest demanding ordinance implementation
Students of Dhaka’s seven government colleges have announced a protest march towards the Education Ministry demanding swift implementation of the proposed Dhaka Central University Act-2025.
The programme is scheduled for Monday (October 13) at 10:30am.
In a press release issued on Saturday (October 11), the students stated, “We will not tolerate further delays. The draft must be updated based on stakeholders’ opinions and passed as an ordinance immediately.”
According to the students, the Ministry of Education has already collected opinions from various stakeholders regarding the draft law and assured a solution. However, the process of transforming the seven colleges into a full-fledged university has been delayed for too long.
Earlier this year, on March 26, the government announced the formation of a new university — Dhaka Central University — comprising the seven colleges. The name was proposed by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The seven colleges are: Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College, Shahid Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Mirpur Bangla College, Government Titumir College.
Students have urged the authorities to pass and implement the law without further delay.
