Seven-day Eid-ul-Azha holiday begins today
A seven-day holiday for Eid-ul-Azha officially began across the country today (May 25).
Government employees will enjoy an extended holiday until May 31, with government offices set to reopen on June 1.
The government had initially declared a six-day holiday centering the holy Eid-ul-Azha, which will be observed on Thursday, May 28.
However, an additional day was later added through an executive order to ease holiday travel and reduce pressure on transportation services during the Eid rush.
As part of the revised arrangement, government employees worked on Saturday, May 23, despite it being a weekly holiday.
According to the holiday schedule, Eid day on May 28 will be observed as a public holiday. The government also declared executive holidays on May 26 and 27 ahead of Eid, and from May 29 to 31 after Eid, creating a continuous week-long break.
The decision to extend the holiday was approved during a cabinet meeting on May 7, considering previous experiences of severe Eid travel congestion across the country.
Later, the Ministry of Public Administration issued an official notification confirming the seven-day holiday and the adjustment of office days.
