Ahead of the upcoming thirteenth national parliamentary election, many candidates have complained that activists of certain political parties are going door-to-door collecting people's National Identity (NID) numbers, causing significant concern on social media. In this context, First Secretary (Press) of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, Tariqul Islam Bhuiyan, alias Tarique Choyon, commented on the matter. On Friday, November 3, he posted from his verified Facebook ID: "Severe punishment must be given for anyone deceitfully snatching someone's National Identity Card (NID) for voting purposes."

আসন্ন ত্রয়োদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচন সামনে রেখে অনেক প্রার্থী অভিযোগ করেছেন যে, কোনো কোনো রাজনৈতিক দলের নেতাকর্মীরা ঘরে ঘরে গিয়ে মানুষের জাতীয় পরিচয়পত্র (এনআইডি) নম্বর নিচ্ছে। সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমেও এ নিয়ে তোলপাড় চলছে। এমতাবস্থায় বিষয়টি নিয়ে মন্তব্য করেছেন কলকাতায় বাংলাদেশ উপ-হাইকমিশনের প্রথম সচিব (প্রেস) তারিকুল ইসলাম ভূঁইয়া ওরফে তারিক চয়ন। শুক্রবার (৩০ জানুয়ারি) নিজের ভেরিফাইড ফেসবুক আইডি থেকে তিনি পোস্ট করেছেনঃ "ভোটের জন্য কারো জাতীয় পরিচয়পত্র (NID কার্ড) অপকৌশলে ছিনিয়ে নিলে চরম শাস্তি দিতে হবে।"
