Sextuplets born at DMCH: 4 babies dead
Four of the six babies born to a 23-year-old mother at Dhaka Medical College Hospital have died while undergoing treatment in intensive care units.
The infants were born on Sunday morning (September 14) at around 9:00am in the labor ward of the hospital's gynecology department. The mother, Mokseda Akter Priya, hails from Senbagh upazila in Noakhali.
According to family sources, three of the newborns were admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Dhaka Medical, while the remaining three were transferred to a private hospital’s NICU for specialized care.
Tragically, two male infants at Dhaka Medical and two female infants at the private hospital passed away between Sunday evening and Monday (September 15). The deaths were confirmed by Priya’s sister-in-law, Farzana Akter.
Inspector Md. Faruk, in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical, stated that the first newborn died Sunday evening. A second death followed later that night. Two more deaths were reported at the private facility during the early hours of Monday.
As of Monday afternoon, one baby remains under treatment at Dhaka Medical, and another is being cared for at the private hospital.
