Shah Ali gets new OC, four other inspectors transferred

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has appointed a new officer-in-charge (OC) at Shah Ali Police Station and transferred four other inspectors following an attack and looting at a health centre in Mirpur.

Inspector Md Rajib Hossain, previously the inspector of investigation at Mirpur Model Police Station, has been appointed OC of Shah Ali Police Station, replacing Jahangir Alam.

The changes were made through an office order signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Sunday (September 27).

Under the order, Inspector Md Al-Amin of the DMP reserve office has been transferred to the Operations Department of Cantonment Police Station, while Inspector Subrata Debnath of Cantonment Police Station has been transferred to the Operations Department of Uttarkhan Police Station.

Inspector Shishir Kumar Karmakar, formerly of Mugda Police Station’s investigation department, has been transferred to the Investigation Department of Sutrapur Police Station. Inspector Md Mominul Islam of the reserve office has been posted as inspector of investigation at Mugda Police Station.

Jahangir Alam was attached to the DMP Central Reserve Office in an order issued on September 26, amid scrutiny over police response to the Mirpur health centre attack.

DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed had visited the scene on Saturday and acknowledged concerns over possible police negligence. He said authorities were examining whether police had responded promptly after receiving information about the incident and whether any negligence had occurred.

A three-member committee headed by the additional deputy commissioner of the Darus Salam zone was formed to investigate the matter. The commissioner said action would be taken against any police personnel found responsible for negligence or dereliction of duty.
