Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque has announced the swift commencement of development work to restore Bogura's historic Shaheed Chandu Stadium to an international standard cricket venue. He made the announcement after visiting the stadium around 2:00 pm on Monday, April 13.

The state minister said an inter-ministerial meeting at the Prime Minister's Office had taken important decisions regarding the preservation of playgrounds and creation of new fields by identifying vacant spaces across the country. Work has already begun to create a sports-friendly environment for future generations, particularly in rural areas and in Dhaka metropolis.

He further said Shaheed Chandu Stadium was once known as an international standard venue. It will be modernised following the standards of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to restore it to that position.

The state minister said Bogura is exceptional in that it does not have a separate district stadium. Under the government's plan to build sports villages in 64 districts, this stadium in Bogura is being prioritised for development.

Officials from the concerned ministry, the National Sports Council and the BCB have agreed to transform the long-neglected stadium into an international standard facility with modern amenities, he said.

The state minister also informed of plans to host the Under-19 Women's BPL here in July. Work will begin soon to ensure all necessary facilities towards that goal.

Local lawmaker Rezaul Karim Badsha, Deputy Commissioner Toufiqur Rahman, sports organisation officials and others concerned were present during the visit.
