Shaheen placed on 5-day remand in murder, body dismemberment case

A court has granted a five-day remand for Shaheen Alam, arrested in the case of murdering his roommate Mohammad Obaidullah in Motijheel, capital, and dismembering the body into seven pieces.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain of Dhaka passed the order on Monday, March 2, following a hearing on the investigating officer's application. Sub-Inspector Roknuzzaman of the Prosecution Branch confirmed the matter.

Motijheel Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Shahriar Hossain said the accused and victim were roommates. The accused, who worked at a hotel, came home with a sharp cleaver in a premeditated manner and attacked the victim following a dispute. He dismembered the victim's body, with some parts recovered from the Turag river. Two parts are yet to be recovered.

Following the hearing, the court granted the five-day remand. No lawyer was present on behalf of the accused.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Shaheen Alam murdered and dismembered Obaidullah following an immoral proposal and altercation. The victim's father, Hamid Miah, filed the case as plaintiff at Motijheel Police Station.
