The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has decided to terminate the appointment of national cricketer Shakib Al Hasan as its brand ambassador.

According to a press release, the decision was made during an emergency meeting of the commission held at the stock regulator's head office in the capital on Wednesday.

In 2017, the BSEC appointed Shakib as its brand ambassador to improve the image of the country's capital market and encourage investors.

In October of that year, Shakib's appointment as a goodwill ambassador for the BSEC was announced during the opening ceremony of World Investor Week, held at Shilpakala Academy in the capital. M Khairul Hossain was the chairman of the BSEC at the time.

Later, the BSEC underwent a leadership change and was reconstituted under Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam. Despite the restructuring in 2020, Shakib Al Hasan was retained as the goodwill ambassador.
