Former Bangladesh national cricket team captain and former Member of Parliament Shakib Al Hasan is likely to join former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the same virtual press conference panel. Sheikh Hasina will address a virtual press conference organised by the Foreign Correspondents Club of South Asia in New Delhi on August 5. The organisers have said that the panel will include Shakib and several other Awami League-affiliated figures.

According to information released by the organisers, the panel will also include Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, former diplomat Aminul Haque Palash, Secretary General of Bangladesh Human Rights Watch Mahammad Ali Siddique, analysts Abu Obaidah Arin and Shah Md Bakhtiar.

This will be the first time Shakib Al Hasan will appear on the same international virtual platform as Sheikh Hasina since entering politics. He was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Magura-1 constituency as an Awami League candidate in the 12th parliamentary elections in 2024, but his membership was dissolved when parliament was dissolved following the political change on August 5 that year.

Following the political change, Shakib remained abroad for an extended period and has rarely spoken publicly about political matters. As a result, his likely participation alongside Sheikh Hasina has sparked fresh debate in both political and sporting circles.

According to Indian media outlet India Today, the virtual press conference will be held at the Sir Marc Tully Auditorium in New Delhi on August 5 from 6pm to 7:30pm. Journalists from around the world will have the opportunity to ask questions.
