Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury sent to jail

A Dhaka court on Friday sent Trinamool BNP Chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury to jail in connection with a case regarding the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim in 2023.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Afnan Somi issued the order after police presented Chowdhury in court and requested that he be detained until the investigation is completed.

Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury was arrested from capital’s Banani DOHS area on Thursday.

According to the case documents, the BNP announced a grand rally for October 28, 2023. To counter this, the Awami League scheduled its own rally in the capital. During the event, Awami League supporters, assisted by police, attacked the BNP rally in Nayapaltan, resulting in the immediate death of Shamim.

The case was filed with the capital's Paltan Police Station on September 24, 2024.
