Sheikh Hasina must face trial for genocide: Shafiqul Alam
Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, has called for Sheikh Hasina to face trial for alleged genocide, citing a recent BBC investigative report on the July 2025 mass uprising in Bangladesh.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Alam referenced the BBC's coverage, which reportedly accuses Sheikh Hasina of ordering the killing of over 100 protesters, including children.
"The BBC’s detailed investigation has brought forward serious allegations that Sheikh Hasina ordered the deaths of numerous protesters," he wrote. "This will only intensify global calls for her extradition. She must be held accountable for these actions."
Alam also criticized Hasina's extended tenure, stating that she has “mobilized a group of killers” and used them to suppress public dissent.
"There can be no impunity—for her or for those close to her who carried out these acts," he added.
The statement has sparked widespread discussion on social media and in political circles, with renewed calls for an international investigation into the events surrounding the July uprising.
