Shama Obaid, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, has said that if former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is sent back from India, she will be arrested according to the law of the country. She also commented that she will have to go to jail later.

She said these words while speaking as the chief guest at a law and order and exchange of views meeting in the conference room of the Madaripur Deputy Commissioner in the afternoon on Tuesday (September 8).

Shama Obaid said it is not a matter of consideration where a convicted accused is sitting and what he is saying. She also commented that Sheikh Hasina and many leaders and activists of her party are staying in India. The state minister said Bangladesh is communicating with the government of India under the extradition treaty to bring her back to the country and the judiciary of India is also looking into the matter.

Regarding Bangladesh joining the Mecca Pact, Shama Obaid said no decision has yet been taken on whether Bangladesh will join this defensive temporary alliance. Priority will be given to the country’s foreign policy before joining any new forum or alliance in the future.

She said the decision will be taken after considering whether any alliance or forum is related to the interests of the people of the country and whether the country will benefit from it. Detailed information will be given from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the time of decision on this matter.
