Sheikh Hasina will face legal process if she returns: Law Minister

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said that if Sheikh Hasina returns to the country, she will have to face the legal process, and the government will not take any action outside the law.

He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after inaugurating a tree plantation programme and a month-long tree fair at the old DC court premises in Jhenaidah city on Friday (July 31).

The Law Minister said, "If she wishes to return to the country, the government will take whatever legal steps are necessary. She herself has said she will return. When she comes back, she will have to face the court. The government will not do anything outside the law."

On legal reforms, he said the interim government had issued 133 ordinances based on the recommendations of the Law Reform Commission. The current government has adopted almost all of those reforms. A special committee has been formed to review and amend the remaining issues. Necessary legal reforms will also be carried out in light of the July Charter.

Responding to a question about the case filed over the attack on central leaders of the NCP in Habiganj, the minister said, "If the government controlled the law, the courts, police and law enforcement agencies, then no case would have been filed over that incident. Now the investigation of the case will be conducted according to the law, and necessary legal action will be taken against the accused based on the investigation."

The inauguration programme, organised by the district administration, was attended by State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, Prime Minister's Political Assistant Rashed Khan, Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Noman Hossain, District Council Administrator M A Majid and other officials from various levels.
