Sheikh Hasina’s children could return to politics with public support: Tarique Rahman
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has stated that anyone, including the children of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, can return to politics if the people welcome them.
He made the remarks in an interview with Reuters on Friday (February 6).
His remarks come amid indications of a major political shift ahead of the 13th national parliamentary elections.
The ruling Awami League, currently barred from participating following the July upheaval, has effectively been sidelined, placing BNP in a strong position to form the next government, international media reports note.
When asked whether BNP would allow Sheikh Hasina’s children—Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul—to re-enter politics if BNP forms the government, Tarique said, “If the people accept anyone and welcome them, then everyone has the right to engage in politics.”
Currently, Sheikh Hasina remains in India, while her children are abroad. Legal proceedings against them continue in connection with ongoing cases in Bangladesh.
