Sheikh Hasina’s trial must be held in Bangladesh: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that Sheikh Hasina is responsible for enforced disappearances and killings, and her trial must take place on the soil of this country. He added, "The maximum punishment should be ensured for these crimes".

He made the remarks on Friday (August 22) as the chief guest at a human chain and exhibition organized by the victims’ families’ group ‘Mayer Dak’ in front of the National Parliament, marking the International Day of the Disappeared.”

Mirza Fakhrul accused the interim government of completely failing to make the Disappearance Commission public and organize public hearings. Families of the disappeared still cannot stop their tears, yet the government has given them no assurance. He said the government must be held accountable to the people on this matter.

He also said, “BNP has always stood by the oppressed. Our party leaders have spent years in prison on false cases, and Tarique Rahman has been forced into exile. Almost every party leader has faced harassment and cases. So the idea that these injustices would be avoided if BNP comes to power is wrong. Our goal is to advance the process of justice through elections.”

The BNP Secretary General said that ensuring justice for disappearances and killings is one of the party’s main demands. He assured the victims’ families that BNP will continue to fight for justice, standing by the children and families affected. He added, “People’s movements never fail. Just as fascism has been removed from power through movements, justice will also be ensured one day.”
