The Election Commission has completed preparations to hold the long-awaited suspended election in Sherpur-3 constituency and the by-election in Bogura-6 constituency. A preliminary decision has been made to hold voting in these two seats on April 9. The formal schedule for these elections will be announced before the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

Election Commissioner Md Abdur Rahman Masud confirmed the election matter in an interview on Tuesday, February 24.

He said, "Our Secretary will officially announce the election date and overall preparations today. He will provide detailed information on this matter on behalf of the Commission."

The general election was held in 299 constituencies across the country on February 12. However, voting in Sherpur-3 constituency was suspended just before the election following the death of Jamaat-nominated candidate Nuruzzaman Badal. According to the Representation of the People Order, if voting is suspended due to the death of a valid candidate, a new schedule must be announced for re-polling.

Meanwhile, in the general election, BNP Chairperson and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman won from both Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies. He subsequently vacated the Bogura-6 seat and took oath as Member of Parliament from Dhaka-17. According to rules, after the Speaker declares the seat vacant, a by-election must be held within 90 days.
