Sherpur-3 polls suspended following death of Jamaat candidate: EC secretary

The parliamentary election for Sherpur-3 (Sreebardi-Jhenaigati) constituency has been suspended following the death of the nominated candidate from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Alhaj Nuruzzaman Badal, aged 51, who was also the secretary of the party's district unit.

Election Commission senior secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the information on Wednesday, February 4.

The candidate, Mohammad Nuruzzaman, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, around 3 am, confirmed VP Muhammad Golam Kibria, the party's candidate for Sherpur-2 constituency.

Family sources said he fell seriously ill with breathing difficulties around 10 pm on Tuesday and was taken to Sreebardi Upazila Health Complex. As his condition worsened, he was being transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. His condition deteriorated further near the city entrance bridge around 3 am, and doctors declared him dead upon arrival at the hospital.



Note: Md. Nuruzzaman of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has passed away and the poll has been suspended in the constituency.
