Shibir announces 24-point manifesto
Islami Chhatra Shibir has announced its manifesto for the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) election under the banner of the Combined Students’ Alliance.
The manifesto was unveiled at a press conference at the Shaheed Buddhijibi Chattar of the university on Saturday morning. Vice-president (VP) candidate Mostakur Rahman Zahid announced the manifesto, which promises 24 reforms to be implemented within the next 12 months.
The 24 points include holding elections at a fixed time every year by incorporating them into the academic calendar; implementing the July Charter; ensuring quality food in campus dining halls and canteens; providing housing subsidies for non-residential students; prioritising education and research; expanding and renovating libraries and reading rooms; internationalising the curriculum; digitising administrative activities; modernising the medical centre; ensuring uninterrupted electricity and internet on campus; installing CCTV cameras and lighting at key points for campus safety; improving transport services; introducing a 24-hour helpline to protect the rights and security of female students; introducing teachers’ evaluation; ensuring access to information services; creating on-campus jobs; implementing a full-fledged TSC complex; protecting the rights of students with special needs; safeguarding the rights of indigenous and minority students; promoting cultural diversity; hygienic sanitation; development of sports; publication of literary works and formation of social organisations; creating a clean and green campus; and tackling crime.
The manifesto also pledges to end hall occupation, seat trading, “tagging and framing” politics, as well as terrorism and violence.
Alongside VP candidate Zahid, general secretary (GS) candidate Fahim Reza and other panel members were present at the press conference.
