Shibir bagged Chhatra League votes by collusion in DUCSU polls: Mirza Abbas
BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has alleged that through collusion in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, all Chhatra League votes ended up with Jamaat-e-Islami-backed candidates.
Speaking at a memorial meeting for BNP Vice Chairman and former minister Abdullah Al Noman in Chattogram city on Wednesday (September 10), Abbas said, “You may say BNP lost the DUCSU election. But I cannot accept that. Where did Jamaat get so many votes in Dhaka University? It does not add up. I will not say there was rigging, but I sense a deep conspiracy in the country.”
He alleged that Jamaat leaders, in meetings with other political groups, frequently urged, “Brother, make sure the Awami League never returns to power. Stop the Awami League, or they will destroy everyone.” Abbas claimed, “We acted accordingly. Yet, secretly, Jamaat colluded with the Awami League and took away all Chhatra League votes in the DUCSU polls.”
According to Abbas, conspiracies against BNP are being orchestrated both at home and abroad because, he said, “BNP is the only party that ensures Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty, and public safety.” He added: “Some may say BNP activists committed excesses after August 5. That is not true. The Awami League conspires jointly with Jamaat or even with BNP infiltrators, and then blames everything on BNP.”
Reaffirming BNP’s official stance, Abbas said, “Our leader Tarique Rahman has made it clear — there will be no place in BNP for terrorists, extortionists, or land grabbers. Anyone failing to correct themselves will face action, Inshallah. BNP is the party of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the party of Begum Khaleda Zia, and today led by Tarique Rahman. There is no room here for wrongdoers.”
The memorial, presided over by former BNP Chattogram North convenor Golam Akbar Khondkar, was also addressed by Chattogram City Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, BNP leaders Abu Sufian, Ekramul Karim, Abul Hashem Bakkar, and Chattogram Press Club Joint Secretary Zahidul Karim Kochi.
