Shibir man handed over to police for making obscene remarks about female students

A Shibir activist of Feni Polytechnic Institute has been handed over to police after allegedly making obscene remarks about female students of the institute in a Facebook post.

The incident took place at around 11pm on Monday (31 August).

The detained, Morshed Alam Adib, is a third-semester student in the Electrical Department and is reportedly an active member of Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Feni Polytechnic unit.

According to fellow students, Adib posted obscene comments about female students living in the institute’s women’s hostel from his personal Facebook account.

After other students noticed the post, they detained him at the hostel and informed the college authorities.
Teachers later went to the scene and verified the allegations.

During questioning, the accused student reportedly admitted to making the comments and apologised. He was subsequently handed over to police.

Feni Polytechnic Chhatra Dal convener Rubel Moghal said, “I was outside the campus when students informed me about the incident. I immediately returned to the campus and tried to calm the students. When we informed the teachers, they came and notified the police.”

Student Mushfiqur Rahman said, “Adib is my classmate. The obscene remarks he made about our female classmates are completely unacceptable. We demand his expulsion.”

Feni Polytechnic Institute Vice-Principal Rupak Kanti said, “The accused is also a student of our institution. He posted obscene comments on Facebook about our female students and the college principal. Such behaviour violates the institution’s disciplinary rules. During questioning, he admitted his wrongdoing and apologised.”

He added, “Considering his future, no case or formal complaint is being filed against him at this stage. His family has been informed. He will be handed over to his family once they arrive. He is being kept in police custody for this reason.”

The vice-principal said the college administration would hold a meeting on Tuesday morning, where a decision may be taken regarding strict institutional action against the student.
