The Islami Chhatra Shibir–backed “Shompiritir Shikkharthi Jote” has won 24 out of 26 posts, including VP and GS, in the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) election—marking the group’s return to leadership after 44 years.

The results were announced early Thursday (October 16) by Chief Election Commissioner Prof. Dr. Monir Uddin, who said voting was held peacefully on Wednesday with about 65% turnout.

Ibrahim Hossain Rony won the VP post with 7,983 votes, defeating Sajjad Hossain Hridoy of the BNP-backed panel. Sayed Bin Habib became GS, securing 8,031 votes.

Shibir candidates also clinched major secretary and executive positions, while the AGS post went to Ayubur Rahman Tawfiq (BNP-backed) and the Sports Secretary post to independent candidate Tamanna Mahbub Preeti.

Election officials said the polls were free and competitive, with vote counting conducted via OMR system and results displayed live across 14 LED screens on campus.
