Shoe thrown at police during hawker eviction drive in Jurain, 2 held
A team from Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Kadamtali Police Station came under attack while carrying out an eviction drive to free roads from encroachment in the capital's Jurain area. During the incident, a shoe was thrown at an on-duty police officer. Police have detained two individuals in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred around 6pm on Sunday (July 26) in the Setu Market area adjacent to Jurain Railgate.
Police said that as part of a regular operation, a team led by SI Kader began the eviction drive in front of the Vikrampur Plaza. Later, when they reached the Setu Market area and ordered hawkers encroaching on the road to vacate, a section of them became agitated and started arguing with the police. At one point, they attacked the police and threw a shoe at SI Kader.
SI Kader said the hawkers became enraged when asked to leave the road and threw a shoe at him. Two individuals were detained from the scene.
Police said legal action against the detainees is underway. Meanwhile, regular eviction drives will continue to keep the roads free of encroachment in the public interest.
