Shomi Kaiser's Bank account details sought

Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has sought all information related to loans, deposits, and transactions of former E-CAB president Shomi Kaiser.

A letter has been sent to the banks to provide this information by next Sunday.

In the letter sent on Thursday (January 9), Shomi Kaiser's bank account information, loan sanction letter, locker account, and import-export information have been sought. The letter has directed banks to provide the BFIU with her bank account opening form, KYC profile, and all transaction details.

However, the specific reason for the investigation has not been disclosed yet.

The letter mentions Shomi Kaiser's addresses in New Eskaton and Gulshan in Dhaka. Although the name of any specific organization was not mentioned in the letter, it is alleged that Tk15 crore from the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) fund was allocated in the name of Dhansiri Communications owned by Shomi Kaiser.

The ICT Ministry allocated Tk100 crore to e-CAB for the development of the e-commerce sector.

Questions have been raised about the lack of transparency in the use of this allocation.
