Shooting in Rohingya camp injures five including child
Five people, including a child, have been injured by indiscriminate gunfire allegedly fired by miscreants in the Alikhali Rohingya camp area in Teknaf upazila, Cox's Bazar. Three of them are Bangladeshi citizens. The incident occurred around 8:30 pm on Thursday in the Block-A/04 area of Teknaf 25 Alikhali Rohingya Camp.
The two injured Rohingya individuals are Abdur Rahman (36), son of Nur Hossain from Alikhali Rohingya Camp Block A/4, and Mohammad Jisan (13), son of Nurul Haque. The three injured Bangladeshis are Bachcha Mia (38), son of Vokka Mia from Hnila Alikhali area; Nusrat Jahan (18), daughter of Abdul Jalil; and Shahabulddin (11), son of Nur Islam.
The matter was confirmed by Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Saiful Islam.
Eyewitnesses and local sources said that on Thursday night, a dump truck was conducting an election campaign as part of the Sheaf of Paddy candidate's activities in the Alikhali area. At that time, some people gathered. Suddenly, a group of people began firing indiscriminate shots around the vehicle. This resulted in two Rohingya and three Bangladeshi individuals being shot.
OC Mohammad Saiful of Teknaf Model Police Station said five people were injured by gunfire in the Alikhali Rohingya camp area. Among them are two Rohingya and three Bangladeshis. Details on who was responsible for the shooting will be known later.
