Shots fired at Dainik Bangla intersection, two injured
Two employees of the Dhaka Newspaper Hawkers Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited were injured in a shooting and looting incident at its office on Rajuk Avenue, near the Dainik Bangla intersection in the capital, on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:45pm and is believed to have been sparked by an internal dispute over dominance within the organisation.
According to police and sources, a group of 30 to 35 people, led by Mominul Islam, joint general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami Olamaleague, entered the office. The group fired two rounds, vandalised the office, and looted items. When two employees on duty tried to intervene, they were beaten with sticks, sustaining injuries. The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
