Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the main suspect, Emamul Ehsan Noyon, and his accomplice Ayon Ganguly Palash, in the murder of businessman Abdur Rahman in Dhaka’s Shyambazar area—just 12 hours after the killing.

The operation was carried out Thursday night near Kallyanpur Bus Stand by RAB-10 and RAB-4 teams. Firearms, fresh cartridges, and spent shells used in the attack were recovered from the suspects.

At a Friday press briefing at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar, RAB-10 Commander Mohammad Kamruzzaman confirmed this.

Abdur Rahman, former president of the Shyambazar Dry Market Owners’ Association, was shot dead in front of Maula Buksh Sarder Dattebayo Chokkhu Haspatal over a business dispute.

A murder case was filed at Sutrapur Police Station, prompting intensified RAB surveillance that led to the suspects’ arrest.

Based on Noyon’s confession, a foreign revolver, 20 live rounds, and two spent shells were recovered from Shyampur, Kadamtali.

Investigations reveal the murder was premeditated over a year due to a business dispute. Noyon, chairman of the “Rahmat Ullah Group,” bought a Shyambazar shop for BDT 6 million in October 2024, but a payment conflict over BDT 2.4 million led him to plan Rahman’s killing. He also purchased a revolver in September and arranged a Nepal escape, booking a flight for December 13.

Legal proceedings against the arrested suspects are underway.
