Siblings drown in Barishal pond

A brother and sister drowned in a pond in Andharmanik Union of Mehendiganj Upazila of Barishal.

The two deceased children are Md. Chahad Hossain, 5, and Chafia Akhter, 3. They are the children of Saidul Hawlader of Barajalia village in Hijla Upazila. Family members said that since the children's father is an expatriate in Saudi Arabia, they lived with their mother at the house of grandfather.

The family said that after feeding them lunch, when their mother went to eat rice, the children went out to play outside the house. After a while, they could not be found. Later, the bodies of the two children were recovered after searching in the pond behind the house.

With the help of locals, they were quickly taken to Muladi Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared both of them dead.

The officer-in-charge of Muladi Police Station said that the bodies have been handed over to the relatives as the family has no complaints.
