Signal 3 issued for four seaports in Bangladesh
Due to a difference in air pressure over the northern Bay of Bengal, the sea and adjacent coastal areas may turn rough. In response, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has advised hoisting local cautionary signal No. 3 at the country’s four seaports—Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra.
In a special weather bulletin issued on Sunday morning (July 6), the Met Office stated that an active monsoon is causing significant air pressure variations over the northern Bay of Bengal. As a result, squally weather with temporary gusts or storms at speeds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour may occur, accompanied by rain and thunderstorms, particularly from the south and southeast.
The “Storm Warning Centre” of the Meteorological Department has instructed all four seaports—Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra—to display cautionary signal No. 3. Additionally, fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay and coastal areas have been advised to proceed with caution and remain close to the coast until further notice.
Meanwhile, inland river ports in Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar have been issued cautionary signal No. 1. The forecast warns of rain accompanied by gusty winds in these regions.
According to the morning (7:00 AM) weather bulletin, light rainfall is expected in Dhaka and surrounding areas, with winds blowing from the south or southeast at 10–15 kilometers per hour.
